This aims to base all business activities on economical,
ecological and social development criteria.
As a global business, Frey targets sustainable development at
all stages of the value-added chain.

Therefore, the company defines important fields of activity,
prioritised with respect to the three sustainability aspects.
Special areas of focus are operational environmental protection,
sustainable procurement and the company's employees.

In all these areas, targets have been set, measures implemented
and projects carried out to ensure compliance with sustainability
principles. Chocolat Frey's environmental performance is
documented and regularly evaluated against the achievement
of targets by using an environmental management system
according to ISO 14001 (since 2008).

 

 

   

 

 

An example of successful measures is the decrease in packaging
material by more than 25% since 2006 while the production
volume remained practically unchanged in the same period.
Also noteworthy is the involvement in cocoa producing countries.
Chocolat Frey sources all cocoa beans from West Africa through
the international UTZ CERTIFIED program. Cocoa farmers who farm
according to UTZ guidelines get better prices for their crops.

At the same time, the program supports initiatives such as training
and development of farmers, schooling of children and youth and the
development of health care. By the end of 2015 the company will
increase the proportion of UTZ certified cocoa beans to 90%.
